- Trim excess fat from the chicken if needed.
- Place the chicken in a single layer in the crockpot.
- Sprinkle the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder evenly over the chicken.
- Pour the chicken broth or water around the chicken without fully submerging it.
- Cook on LOW for 6–8 hours for the best texture, or on HIGH for 3–4 hours for a faster option.
- Once the chicken is tender and pulls apart easily, shred it inside the slow cooker using two forks.
- Mix the shredded chicken with the cooking juices before serving or storing.
